About writewyattuk

This is the online home of author, writer and editor Malcolm Wyatt, who has books on The Jam, Slade and The Clash under his belt and many more writing projects on the go, as well as regularly uploading feature-interviews and reviews right here. These days he's living his best life with his better half in West Cornwall after their three decades together in Lancashire, this Surrey born and bred scribe initially heading north after five years of 500-mile round-trips on the back of a Turkish holiday romance in 1989. Extremely proud of his two grown-up daughters, he's also a foster carer and a dog lover, spending any spare time outside all that catching up with other family and friends, supporting Woking FC, planning adventures and travels, further discovering his adopted county, and seeing as much of this big old world as time allows. He can be contacted at thedayiwasthere@gmail.com and various social media online portals, mostly involving that @writewyattuk handle.

Concentrating on the league again

ANOTHER year on, another FA Cup run over. Or at least that’s the case for a few more non-league clubs this week, including my near-neighbours AFC Fylde, after their exit to fellow Lancashire outfit Accrington Stanley on Saturday. So while … Continue reading

The relentless search for our favourite 30 family reads

A few weeks ago, the Wyatt family (Northern branch) was asked to get involved in Lancashire Libraries’ Reading Families* project. And as a regular Leyland Library customer since my girls were tots, and a keen supporter of The Bookseller‘s Fight for … Continue reading

Sat Nav be buggered – the pitiful search for Rodney Parade

We were doing so well, with the motorway traffic between Lancashire and the South Wales border flowing as smoothly as could be expected on a busy Saturday morning at the beginning of half term and everything going to plan. The … Continue reading

Non-league football still has White Tigers in its tail

As Mark Twain, once wrote, “The report of my death was an exaggeration.” And there were elements of that in the reporting of troubled Truro City’s final demise late last week. It’s all been happening at Treyew Road of late, … Continue reading

Welcome to the 21st century, FIFA … now wake up to racism

RATHER than suffer the highlights of England’s World Cup qualifying draw with Poland last week, I watched BBC genealogy documentary series Who Do Yo Think You Are? as John Barnes jetted off to Jamaica to learn about his family’s part in the … Continue reading

The Price Is Wrong (surely)

“HOW MUCH?” It’s an oft-repeated question in football these days, whether you’re talking about an international or a trip to see your local heroes – covering everything from the price of admission to the quality of a pie. And anyone … Continue reading
